Ricky Ng
Clarinet
20-year-old Hong-Kong-born clarinettist Ricky Ng began playing the clarinet at the age of 7. He was the Principal Clarinet of the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra and Hong Kong Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, and appeared as guest principal in the Hong Kong Youth Philharmonia. He is currently the principal clarinet of the University of London Symphony Orchestra. He also played in the Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Marin Alsop.
Ricky completed LTCL performance diploma with distinction in 2017 at the age of 14. He was passionate about organizing musical events while studying at St.Paul’s College Hong Kong, including summer concerts and inter-school music exchanges. He was the concertmaster in the college’s wind orchestra from the age of 14 and appeared as the soloist in his school’s tour to Japan in 2019 performing Viktor’s Tale and Danzon No.2 in the Kawaguchiko Stellar Theater. The college awarded him The Most Outstanding Instrumentalists Award in 2019 giving the recognition to his contribution. Besides, he was the second-runner up of the 71st Hong Kong School Music Festival Woodwind Concerto Group in 2019 playing the Mozart Clarinet Concert.
Ricky received the 1st prize in the 2nd International Music Competition Malopolska 2022, 1st prize in the World Classical Award 2022 Season IV (Concerto Group) and the ‘EURONIA’ Special Award from Youth of Music International Classical Music Competition (2022). During summer 2022, he gave his debut solo recital in Hong Kong, then gave his UK debut in October. He is currently studying clarinet and Eb clarinet with Timothy Lines, Janet Hilton, Richard Hosford and Marie Lloyd at the Royal College of Music.
