Enjoy learning Jazz

It emerged very early in the 20th Century coming out of New Orleans with master musicians like Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong. Throughout the 20th Century and into the 21st the music has expanded with many heroes and heroines who represent that sound. It is considered one of the greatest contributions to the world by Americans, particularly African Americans.

At World Heart Beat we teach Jazz through the guidance and expertise of our patron Julian Joseph, who has devised a wonderful approach called The Jazz 5.

The Jazz 5 is a repertoire-driven approach to learning Jazz, and it relies heavily on developing the ear by absorbing the classic recordings. Our students find this a joyful and natural way of learning the music. World Heart Beat has an outstanding reputation for teaching and performing Jazz!

We also encourage our students, once they are ready, to audition for the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy (Saturdays).
