World Heart Beat

Winner – Cultural Champion at Wandsworth Civic Awards 2025

We are delighted and overjoyed to announce that Sahana Gero, World Heart Beat’s Founder and Artistic Director, has won the Cultural Champion Award at the Wandsworth Civic Awards ceremony, held last night.

The Civic Awards celebrate and recognise Wandsworth residents that go above and beyond to help others and make outstanding contributions to the local community – often without any recognition.

“The Wandsworth Civic Awards represent the highest accolade our council can bestow on members of our community. All our nominees work tirelessly to support some of the most vulnerable among us, and their impressive commitment, expertise, and effort transforms lives every day.” Mayor of Wandsworth Jeremy Ambache

Thank you to Nikki Marsh, a Joy member and supporter who nominated Sahana Gero for this award. She explains below the need to fund our vital work with young people.

Access to the arts is so important, and it is brilliant that half of World Heart Beat’s young people are on bursaries, so it’s not only well-off families that can take part in music. We have loved coming to concerts and events to see the talented students perform and to learn more about World Heart Beat over the last couple of years.

We have a sense of how much work is involved in keeping World Heart Beat going and managing to raise all the funds that are needed. Congratulations to Sahana on winning this award, and thank you and all your team for everything you continue to do.
