A musical vision beyond his years

Evan Parker

Having been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award, a Parliamentary Jazz award and having been awarded the Tebbut Exhibition award, Richard Turner award and the Royal Academy of Music’s Principles Prize, Jonny signed to Edition Records to release his debut album ‘Elftet’. His second album ‘The Air in Front of You’ presents compositions written whilst studying for a masters in psychology.

The sheer originality his music exudes.

(All About Jazz)

This acoustic quintet contains instrumental sub-groups of strings (Dominic Ingham violin, Will Sach bass) and percussion (Francesca Remigi drums, Jonny Mansfield vibraphone), to create idiosyncratic, un-explored textures. For this show they’re joined by Emma Rawicz, the award-winning saxophonist.

There is an underlying shared commitment to create a kaleidoscope of colours using extended techniques that allow for familiar folk-like melodies to guide the listener through extemporaneous soundscapes. Improvisation is at the core of the performance, which is emphasised by the contrasting musical backgrounds between the members in the ensemble.

Ivo Neame is an internationally renowned pianist, composer, and bandleader who has established himself as one of the most innovative and dynamic figures in the contemporary jazz scene. He is best known for his work with the award-winning bands Phronesis and Marius Neset, as well as collaborations with numerous other artists, including Hermeto Pascoal, Jasper Høiby, and Julian Argüelles.
