This concert is a double bill featuring Christine Tobin’s new album launch, Pseudologia Fantastica and Brian Eley & Ashley Wales’s SONGS.

Pseudologia Fantastica

Pseudologia Fantastica is a mixed media, performance piece of multiple short compositions that include spoken word, song, electronic fx, hand percussion, pre-recorded soundscapes & compositions against a backdrop of striking images. Pseudologia Fantastica, meaning pathological liar, charts a journey that explores themes of disinformation, the war on words, the misappropriation of new technologies, the rise of far-right ideologies and ultimately the corresponding rise of community, resistance and the kindness of the human spirit. A change is coming.

Christine performs with cellist Kate Shortt and guitarist Phil Robson.

Too humane and humorous to preach, and too intelligent to deliver a formula for life, Christine Tobin is nevertheless fascinated by the pursuit of something that might stand up as The Truth John Fordham Jazz UK

Christine Tobin

The Irish vocalist/composer moved to London to attend the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and later studied Social Anthropology at Goldsmiths. With 12 highly acclaimed albums under her own name and four major awards including a British Composer Award, Christine is now embarking on a brand new artistic direction with her 13th release, Pseudologia Fantastica (an early version premiered at the New Music Dublin festival last year). She spent five years in NYC where she made a considerable impact on the contemporary scene and co-curated the long-running multimedia jazz series ‘Tobin’s Run on 51’, at the Irish Arts Center in Hell’s Kitchen with life-long musical partner, renowned jazz guitarist Phil Robson.

SONGS

SONGS is a collaborative album by vocalist/poet Brian Eley and sound artist/producer Ashley Wales (known for Spring Heel Jack). Rather than traditional singing, the project features Eley’s spoken-word recitations of his own romantic and introspective poetry, accompanied by Wales’s atmospheric, electronic background soundscapes.
