Mátyás Hofecker
Double Bass
Mátyás Hofecker was born in the Hungarian city Pécs, and he developed a passion for music at a very early age, playing the trumpet at four years old. In primary school, he became familiar with jazz and e-bass, and he switched to double bass in his teenage years, when started playing straight ahead mainstream jazz professionally. He is recognised as one of the leading figures amongst the younger generation of jazz bassists in Europe.
He studied music at Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. In 2012, he won a scholarship at Kunstuniversität Graz, where he studied under the tutelage of Wayne Darling, and received his bachelor degree with distinction. After continuing his studies, he then became a graduate student of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
Mátyás was invited to be a temporary member of the Harold Mabern Trio between 2016-2017, playing in Greece, Germany and Austria with the living pianist legend – and one of the most highly regarded jazz drummers – Joe Farnsworth.
Mátyás has recorded with Sheila Jordan, a former singer of Charlie Parkers, and has performed with many of the great musicians such as Jesse Davis, Dusko Goykovich, Don Menza, Stjepko Gut, Jim Rotondi and Renato Chicco.
