At World Heart Beat, we are always looking for new ways to make engaging in quality music education approachable and current for children and young people. We take pride in offering lessons to those who would not otherwise have a chance to learn music.
Grade 5 Theory is essential to those wishing to take higher level music exams…
ABRSM, the UK’s most popular exam board in the UK, states that you must have Grade 5 Theory to take their higher level music exams (Grades 6, 7 and 8). Unfortunately, many of the schools our students attend don’t offer the Grade 5 Theory Music course.
During lockdown, Sahana Gero, MBE and Founder offers ‘social’ sessions to help and support young people online, and realised that a Grade 5 Theory social course would really encourage and engage our young musicians.
Within seconds, 30 teenagers, with a massive varying prior knowledge of music theory, signed up to take the course. Some don’t read notation, some are drummers and tabla players and some are young Jazz musicians that learn by ear and don’t engage in ABRSM grades. However, some are studying for A level music, and a good percentage want a career as a musician when they leave school.
Grade 5 Theory Music is invaluable as it offers good understanding of music notation, scales, keys, time, intervals, transposition, basic harmony, chords, general knowledge about orchestral instruments, and composition.
When Victoria Williams heard of this initiative she donated 30 of her excellent ‘My Music Theory‘ Home-study Complete Course to World Heart Beat.
The online videos are short, approachable and interesting to digest and the course is clear and engaging.
We are so proud to see so many youngsters really getting to grips with Grade 5 Theory Music and expanding their horizons this way and wish to thank Victoria immensely for this beautiful gift to help these young musicians.
