Last week on the 7th of June World Heart Beat had the rare opportunity of having Sumire Kuribayashi and Hideaki Kanazawa perform. Pianist and composer, Sumire, is one of the most appreciated pianists in Japan’s vibrant jazz scene. She was joined by her regular double bass player, Hideaki Kanazawa, a giant of jazz in Japan.
The show was presented by Yokohama Calling, a London based producer creating unique cross-cultural collaborations which promote cultural understanding through the universal power of music. Therefore, these two wonderful musicians collaborated with three of our own World Heart Beat musicians. Ezekiel accompanied Sumire on the piano, Iao played the piano with Hideaki on the double bass, and Quinn played the saxophone with Hideaki. It was a lovely chance to unite these musicians who did not even meet before the performance, showing the power of music as a language that we all speak.
