Yannis Hannachi and Karen Shiraishi were the two exceptional students chosen by the Grammy panel to attend Grammy Camp LA this year through our partnership with Gucci Timepieces and Jewellery.
“Grammy Camp was such an inspirational, amazing and fun experience. I got the chance to collaborate with 4 other people to produce a song in just 2 days including writing, recording and post production. I have more drive to succeed and work even harder by applying all of the new knowledge I have gained.”
– Yannis Hannachi (Electronic Music)
We are so grateful to Gucci Timepieces and Jewellery and the Recording Academy for giving two of our young musicians this opportunity every year. For a week, they get to live breath eat and drink music, meet music students and artists from all over the world, work with professionals, perform and write and original music.
I am writing to thank you for the Timepieces & Jewellery scholarship and for the opportunity for me to go to Grammy Camp LA this summer. It was a life changing experience, and I feel that I gained a lot of knowledge.
At Grammy Camp I learned many things about the music industry. Prior to going to camp, I did not realise the importance of knowing so much about the industry, and how vital it is to have this knowledge to make substantial money.
We also learned about songwriting, which was new to me. After discussing the process of writing a song and the properties of songs that become hits, I now have a lot more respect for popular artists.
As well as this, I learned about how to work efficiently when collaborating with other musicians. Being put in a group of entirely new people and exchanging ideas and creating songs was a challenge, but one I thoroughly enjoyed.
One of the best parts of camp was meeting the other people at camp. Being in an environment full of people with the same passion for music as me was truly invigorating, and it has reinforced my desire to study music at university.Talking to so many people with different musical backgrounds has broadened my taste – I am still making my way through the list of artist recommendations from all the people I met there!
The connections and friendships that developed from my time spent there are ones that are very important to me. There are people who I still talk to almost everyday, and getting to know everyone is a memory that I will treasure forever. Saying goodbye on the last day was very difficult; these are friends that I intend to keep for the rest of my life, and I hope to visit them in the near future.
Grammy camp is not something that I could afford, and I am incredibly grateful for the experience; I cannot thank you enough. It has changed the way I view the world and it has honestly changed my life– A letter from Karen Shiraishi to the Gucci Sponsors
