A fluent, thoughtful and highly creative pianist Phil Merriman has worked with a wide variety of classical, world and jazz musicians. He includes performances at the likes of Ronnie Scott’s, 606 Club, Cadogan Hall, Cheltenham Jazz Festival and The Royal Albert Hall alongside musicians as diverse as Polly Gibbons, CeCe Peniston, Raph Clarkson, Tara Minton and Aref Durvesh.
He will be playing music from his recently released album, The Roots Beneath alongside brand new original material and arrangements, and will feature his established trio of John Williamson (bass) and Simon Roth (drums).

Phil Merriman
Awarded the Ed Burrell Prize for Performance while studying Music at the University of York where he studied Jazz Piano with John Taylor; Phil Merriman has had the privilege of working alongside musicians and artists in a wide variety of contexts across the UK and abroad. Phil has performed with artists such as Alice Zawadzki, Polly Gibbons, Andrew Small, Aref Durvesh, Tara Minton, Mo Pleasure, CeCe Peniston, Dawn Robinson, Tony Kofi, Shola Ama and Selina Albright. Phil has performed at distinguished London venues such as Ronnie Scotts, 606 Club, Crazy Coqs, Spice of Life, The Vortex, Cadogan Hall, Pizza Express (Soho/Peasantry/Holborn), in BBC Proms Plus events and has also led large-scale music education Phil Merriman Trio – Bios projects alongside Pete Churchill, including composing, arranging and conducting performances at the Royal Albert Hall.
John Williamson
Hailing from Saltburn-by-the-sea in northeast England, John Williamson began as a bassist alongside temporary work in academic physics, while living in Leeds, Washington DC, and now London. Known for his musical ear, creativity and strong sight-reading, he is at home in small and large ensembles ranging from straight-ahead jazz to contemporary originals projects. Since arriving in the capital he has played alongside many of the city’s finest, including Jason Brown, Nigel Price, Emma Rawicz, Sam Leak, Alex Garnett, Gene Calderazzo, Dominic Ingham, Jonny Mansfield, Jo Harrop, Nat Steele, Pete Horsfall, Trevor Mires, Nick Costley-White, Gene Calderazzo, Hannes Riepler, Matt Anderson, Rachael Cohen, and Sam Braysher. In 2020, John won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, where he is tutored by an array of luminaries including Kit Downes, Nikki Iles, Jim Hart and Orlando Le Fleming.
Simon Roth
Simon Roth is a multi-instrumentalist musician, composer and producer, known primarily as a drummer in the Contemporary and Klezmer music scenes. He grew up within a family of musicians in a house between an old forest, the M25 and the Metropolitan line, immersed in Big Band Jazz, Free Improv, Classical music, Klezmer, 1960s Pop and a well-worn tape of the The A Team Theme Tune. He has performed all over the world and features on several critically acclaimed recordings, with artists and performers that include Chris Potter, Alice Zawadzki, Vula Viel and Adrian Dunbar. UK Performance highlights include Ronnie Scott’s, South Bank Centre, Kings Place Festival and the EFG London Jazz Festival.
