Taking Liberties
An intimate hour of chamber music on the eve of International Women’s Day spotlighting the remarkable lives of three 19th-century French women composers who took Paris, and the world, by storm – much to the surprise of their male counterparts.
With in-depth commentary from music journalist Peter Quantrill, the concert is brought to you by pianist Reiko Fujisawa (‘Elegant playing… a total joy’, The Times), an artist with a history of curating thought-provoking series including ‘Clara Schumann: Prodigy, Muse, Virtuoso’.
Featuring piano and strings, expect lush harmonies and heartfelt melodies that speak of La Belle Époque alongside ethereal new music from one of France’s brightest young composers, 24 year-old Elise Bertrand.
Programme
Mel Bonis: “Soir, Matin” for violin, cello and piano op. 76
Elise Bertrand: Sonata for violin and cello op. 8
