Cherubim Music Trust: Siren Song
Saturday 25 January 2025
Classical
Tickets: £20/£12* plus free to U18s
Join us for the premiere performance of Siren Song, enriched with Finn Murphy’s sound enhancement and Sam Steer’s graphics, to discover a new aspect of Cherubim Music Trust’s work, with a window opening into new dimensions of sound.
A hauntingly immersive programme for flute, piano and ambient audiophonics including the premiere of Cherubim’s new commission Siren Song by Proms composer James B Wilson, the evening offers a dream-like continuum of modern ambient music with minimalists Pärt, Reich, Adams, Cage, and mood-sustaining audiophonic music by MM Steer, Alvin Lucier, Roberto Fabbriciani and the KLF.
James B Wilson sees Siren Song as “a drama without dialogue. We are all present in a wordless environment whose acoustics reflect the spaces we inhabit – imaginary streets, half-familiar rooms. It’s an acoustic fantasy: where the flautist is a dreamer moving effortlessly through all sorts of musical environments where amazing richness is contrasted with desolation.”
Programme
The programme includes Pärt Spiegel im Spiegel, John Cage Dream, MM Steer Notes From Janá?ek’s Diary, Poppy Ackroyd Murmurations, Reich Vermont Counterpoint, Fabbriciani Glaciers in Extinction, Adams China Gates, KLF The Lights of Baton Rouge Pass By, concluding with James B Wilson’s new work Siren Song with sound enhancement by Finn Murphy & graphics by Sam Steer.
