Classical guitarist Ahmed Dickinson (Cuba) with special guests, cellist Li Lu (China) and soprano Lorena Paz Nieto (Spain) join forces for an evening of music by Catalan rising-star composer María Camahort. The recital includes Agua Pura, a five-movement work commissioned by Ahmed Dickinson, along with poignant songs with texts by Federico Garcia Lorca and award-winning piece Ponent.

Ahmed Dickinson is a Havana-born virtuoso guitarist who has performed extensively in the UK, Europe and North America. He has collaborated with several orchestras including the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, The Docklands Sinfonia and The Bath Festival Orchestra, and has performed at iconic venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Wigmore Hall. A popular recording artist, his performances have been featured on BBC Radio 3 and Radio Catalunya. Introducing the works of prominent guitar composers such as Eduardo Martín and Jose Antonio (Ñico) Rojas to European audiences, this latest project features thrilling works from award-winning composer Maria Camahort, whose innovative New Mediterranean style blends perfectly with Dickinson’s musical sensitivity.
LORENA PAZ- NIETO

Award-winning Spanish soprano Lorena Paz Nieto is a winner of the Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform award and the Ludmilla Andrews Russian Song Prize. A versatile soprano, equally at home in opera and recital, Lorena’s repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music and everything in between. Notable recital performances have included recitals at the Oxford Lieder Festival, Heidelberger Frühling Festival, and recitals and a masterclass in Japan. Recent operatic roles include Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro, Nannetta Falstaff (West Green House Opera), and Clorinda La Cenerentola (Nevill Holt Opera). Her recently released first solo CD, ‘Cantando a dos poetas’, champions contemporary songs by Spanish composers.
LI LU

Originally from China, Li Lu completed her musical training at RNCM and has since worked both as a soloist and as an orchestral musician across Asia and Europe. Her artistic life took a new direction when she travelled from Athens to Edinburgh in thirty-five days, surviving purely by playing cello. Her performances were featured in a Sky Arts documentaryArt of Survival (2011), reaching a vast audience in the UK and internationally. Inspired by this adventure she recorded the complete Bach cello suites, In Love with Bach (2012). In addition to her exciting performing career, Li Lu works at Chetham’s School of Music, where she enjoys teaching talented young musicians.
MARIA CAMAHORT

Maria Camahort is a guitarist, composer and arranger who possesses exceptional knowledge and facility on her instrument within multiple contexts. Her devotion for chamber music and collaborative projects has carried her to major concert halls in London, Paris, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Barcelona, Madrid, Edinburgh, Brussels, Warsaw, Crackow, Mexico City, Chicago, and Auckland.
Since 2017 she has combined her career as an instrumentalist with an increasing activity as a composer. In 2020 she was awarded the Second Prize in the I Llobet Composition Competition for Guitar, and the Second Prize in the Maria de Pablos III International Composition Competition (Don Juan de Borbón Foundation).
In February 2021 she premiered her work for string quartet “Nóos”, commissioned by the FIAS 2021 festival (Madrid), performed by the Bauhaus Quartet. She was chosen, by the SGAE Foundation, for the 2020 premiere incentives, with her work Broken Landscapes, for clarinet and piano. Her composition Ponent, for solo guitar, was awarded the First Prize in the Maria de Pablos IV International Composition Contest. Her latest commission is the transcription of piano works by E. Escudé – Cofiner for guitar duet.
