Latin Sessions
The main emphasis of Latin music is the rhythm, which is strong and central to the composition of the music. The music appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds because of its rhythm and catchy upbeat vibe, which covers a variety of styles and genres, heavily inspired from African beats.
Internationally-acclaimed Cuban violinist, Omar Puente leads the Latin Sessions and encourages students to embrace the knowledge of Jazz and Latin Jazz music; young people will learn to work in groups providing them with the tools to progress their own musical futures.
Omar has performed in both classical and jazz genres to audiences worldwide. On leaving Cuba, he was first violin with the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, and toured with Buena Vista’s Ruben Gonzales. Since then, he has maintained an international profile playing all over Europe, Middle and Far East, the USA and Africa, sharing the stage with a whole host of other International stars.
All musicians (playing any instrument) are welcome to take part in the sessions, Grade 4 and above.
Latin Sessions takes place on Wednesdays, 6:45 – 7:45pm.
