51st State Big Band
The 51st State Big Band is dedicated to teaching young musicians the orchestral heritage of jazz. With Duke Ellington repertoire at its core (though other composers and arrangers are studied) the band showcases classic, swinging transcriptions whilst also providing a platform for students to arrange for the band themselves, if they so wish.
The band has been formed in partnership with the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy, Trinity Laban, and is led by Alex Thomas-French.
Instruments welcome are as follows: Trumpets, Trombones, Saxophones, Guitar, Piano, Bass & Drums. This band is for Intermediate and Advanced players. Experience in improvising and jazz is preferable though not essential. No audition required.
The band rehearses for ten sessions per term at World Heart Beat Kimber Road from 6:45 to 8:30pm.
Fees are £150 per term.
The 51st State Big Band is kindly supported by The Wavendon Foundation.
