World Heart Beat awarded Arts Council NPO status!

In a major culture injection for music in Wandsworth, Arts Council England (ACE) announced that World Heart Beat has been included – for the first time – as one of its National Portfolio Organisations for 2018 – 2022.

According to Arts Council Chief Executive, Darren Henley, “The National Portfolio is a fresh, ambitious and wide-ranging group of organisations that we believe will bring new energy to the arts and cultural sector.”

And there’s more. With ACE giving much higher priority to the regions than to the capital, just three new London-based organisations for music have been accepted into the portfolio. World Heart Beat fought off huge competition to be one of these, testimony to its very special role in teaching diverse music to a highly diverse young community.

For World Heart Beat, this means that an important level of annual funding is guaranteed for four years, funding that will help underpin our cause of transforming young lives through music.… and our artistic director is now an MBE! Sahana Gero, founder and artistic director of World Heart Beat, has had her dedication, inspiration, enormous talent for music, and music teaching rewarded in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List. She is now an MBE!

Sahana says: “This is such an important milestone for World Heart Beat and for music, arts and culture in Wandsworth. World Heart Beat is committed to ensure that the live music offer is nurtured, developed and enjoyed by all with its continued focus on identifying new talent and finding new audiences through our collaborations and presenting music in fresh ways.”

World Heart Beat uses the power of music to inspire, bring people together and make a positive impact
