Youth Music Award winner and melodic singer songwriter from Brixton
Violet May is an emerging artist from Brixton, South London, whose music reflects a deep, personal connection to her emotions and experiences. With a childhood steeped in music, particularly through time spent at her grandparents’ piano, Violet began her musical journey early, writing and performing her own songs for family and friends. This intimate, diaristic approach to songwriting is central to her work today.
When asked about the genre of her music, Violet avoids labeling it, preferring instead for listeners to form a personal connection with her songs.Throughout her career, she has worked with various projects and charities, including collaborations with Grounded Sounds and Brixton Chamber Orchestra. These experiences have shaped her as an independent artist, allowing her to blend the energy of community with the unique emotional depth of her music. She loves performing with string instruments as they add a unique sound to her tracks. One of her proudest accomplishments is winning a Youth Music Award for a song she wrote during the From Scratch Project.
Violet’s debut EP, ULTRA VIOLET, released last year, has marked a new milestone in her career. She has also supported notable artists like Lola Young and Tamera, showcasing her talent to a broader audience. With a growing fanbase and an evolving sound, Violet continues to make a mark on the music scene, all while staying grounded in her personal connection to both her craft and her community.
