World Heart Beat forms a central part of the festivities of the Bloomsday Festival, celebrating the very best of Irish culture, food, drink and music, and honouring the life of esteemed Irish poet James Joyce.
DIY Instruments
Come and play with a mixture of recycled materials to investigate the different sounds they can make and build and decorate an instrument of your own design.
Jenny Pengilly is an artist and creative facilitator who enjoys supporting people to sensorily explore and create with materials. She has a monthly radio show ‘Experimental Music and Children‘ on RTM.FM which investigates experimental music in relation to ideas around childhood and children’s culture, learning and experience. She also runs Static Studios, a nomadic recording studio working in collaboration with children to make audio content of all kinds!
Screenings
We’ll also have free screenings of films and shorts through the day.
The main stage sees emerging and established Irish talent; with a mixture of music and spoken word performances. Singer-songwriter Imelda May is headlining, there will be Ceilidh dancing and – of course – plenty of hearty food and whiskey.

This Oscar and BAFTA winning short film is directed and written by Tom Berkeley and Ross White. Set in rural Northern Ireland, it tells the story of a strained reunion between two brothers following the death of their mother.
